I love small businesses; the people behind them are intelligent, creative, hard working, and focused! In Australia small business employs nearly half of our 4.8 million workforce. Small business operators are often so busy working in their business that they struggle to find time to actually work on their business.
They’re busy wearing all the hats and making things happen on a daily basis, yet they haven’t even begun marketing online with a website. Having their own website could really reduce their workload and expose them to a whole world of new prospects and customers.
Why don’t they have a website?
These are the 3 reasons I generally experience.
1. They don’t know what to do. They’ve been in business long enough to know there’s always a steep learning curve with something new – the technical details, the marketing details, the necessary knowledge. They know an amateurish-looking, poorly laid out website can do more harm than good. A website should be more than an electronic brochure. Building a website is something that can be learned and some aspects of it are easy, but it takes time. Which leads to objection #2.
2. They don’t have time to go through the learning process, the site development or the on going maintenance. They don’t have time to learn what to do, time to get it going, time to keep it going. That’s why there are companies Savvy Web Marketing that specialise in setting up your website and even keeping it updated for you.
3. They can’t afford to. Their business is just starting off and they cannot afford a web site. The perception is that it is a “luxury” of for “bigger companies that have been around a lot longer than theirs”.
A website is a necessity today and I would argue it’s better to get it up as soon as possible so it can help bring in clients. It can also give the perception that your company is one of substance and that you have been around for a while.
People like to check out your company out online, it gives them more of a sense of who you are, and they like to buy online. A website means customers are global, not just local, and that should tell you your chance to profit from your website can far outweigh the cost of getting a website designed and “put up”. At Gippsland Web Designers we will maintain your web site including as many changes as you need at no additional cost.
So if you are a small business let us show you how easily and cost effectively you can have your own web site.
